Media/content: the digital revolution |
|
Companies in the media/content sector need to adjust their market position to accommodate the new distribution channels that the telecom technologies represent :
Distribution, media, fixed operators or fully automatic installation (FAI): entire sectors are seeing their players face strategic decisions. They must either quickly adapt or disappear in the massive re-shuffle of the Internet and telecoms players. Before you panic, it is worth considering the difference between fashion and revolution, and opportunities and genuine dangers. The example of the large record companies is quite interesting in this respect: they could not have predicted online distribution and are today in a vulnerable position which has forced them into a fundamental change in strategy. This has been all the more difficult because the major record companies have never had to face such turmoil arising from technological developments or the arrival on the scene of new players. They should and indeed must tackle more effectively the emergence of new distribution channels and new consumer trends spurred on by new players.
